Celebrating the history and the legacy of The Blades
The Blades aerobatic display team performed for the final time on Saturday 24th June to an audience of friends, supporters, colleagues, and sponsors at a charity event hosted at the team’s home base, Sywell Aerodrome, Northamptonshire.
The closure of The Blades was announced in January this year, after 17 seasons of thrilling air displays watched by millions of people around the world.
Andy Offer, Director, 2Excel’s Co-Founder, and the original Blade 1, explained: “While it will never feel like the right time to draw a line under this world-class team the challenges to global economies, the worsening cost-of-living crisis and the protracted hit to disposable incomes this is causing have exacerbated the challenges facing The Blades amid the continued degradation of the air show circuit, with more and more events being lost, resulting in fewer opportunities to display and showcase our sponsors to the public.
“We would like to thank our highly valued sponsors, our supporters and the legions of people who’ve both watched the Team from the ground and those who have taken flight on our Unforgettable Experience days to enjoy close formation aerobatics or become part of the Blades Flight Club.”
This short film encapsulates the history and the legacy of The Blades: the epitome of aerial excellence and an important and iconic part of 2Excel since the Company was founded in 2006. The team has been the one constant during the Company’s expansion from just four aeroplanes and five people to the 30 aircraft and almost 500 employees the Group comprises today.
